Uplay cottage is a beautiful 'Arts and Crafts' Edwardian
estate workers new forest cottage, set in a delightful village
location at the end of a quiet lane within the oldest part
of Everton village. It was designed and built under the direction
of the office of Edwin Lutyens, the well known Arts and Crafts
architect.
The cottage is sited within it's large, quiet garden, enclosed
by high hedges and tall mature trees, and is only two minutes
walk from the village pub and excellent restaurant, The Crown,
which is run independently by husband and wife team Jannine
and Phil and serves quality food and real ales.
The nearby beaches at the next village, Milford on Sea, with
views across to the Needles on the Isle of Wight, and the
fine georgiam quayside market town of Lymington, are both
only a couple of miles away, adding extra interest to this
New Forest cottage's location.
Uplay cottage retains all of it's original character both
inside and out, the ouside has it's original clay peg tiles
and mellow red brick, complemented by the original timber
windows and doors with the addition of inkeeping double opening
french windows, in original window openings, to access the
deck from the lounge, and the large garden from the kitchen
/ dining room.
There are original wooden floorbards and ledge and braced
cottage doors throughout, and characterful quarry tiles remain
in the lobby and cloakroom, and form the window sills.
The large but cosy lounge has an open fire, perfect for winter
breaks, and the original high timber beamed ceiling. It is
furnished with 2 settees and 2 period armchairs, making it
a comfortable room for 8 guests, and there are a couple of
folding chairs that can be brought in if there are 10 guests.
There's an original built in dresser which houses books, DVDs
and games, and local information useful during your stay,
and a television with DVD player. The room has windows at
both ends.
The kitchen/dining room directly adjoins the lounge and also
accesses the garden and the deck. It has a large central wooden
table with 8 chairs, making a comfortable social space alone
or combined with the lounge. There are 2 folding chairs if
2 extra guests want to squeeze in at the table too. There
are contemporary, durable stainless steel and beech worksurfaces,
stainless steel integrated oven and hob, with a freestanding
fridge freezer. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and
tumbledryer. The maple kitchen cupboards house a comprehensive
range of cooking and dining equipment for use during your
stay.
There's a bathroom upstairs with wc, basin and bath, with a
separate thermostatic shower over the bath with glass screen.
The cloakroom downstairs has a second wc and basin.
The four bedrooms at Uplay cottage, all with different aspects
and character, comprise of two double bedrooms, one on the
ground floor with front window to the small front garden and
side bay window overlooking the large garden, the other upstairs,
again with dual aspect, cosy vaulted ceiling and inkeeping
arts and crafts furniture. A further bedroom with a double
bed and a single bed has a delightful view over the large
cottage garden, and the next bedroom has bunk-beds and a single
bed, and has a front aspect with cottage dormer window, and
the unusual 'secret window', which children and adults alike
love!

Some guests kindly wrote a poem about their stay at Uplay
Cottage:
A Poetic Farewell
Where in the world did we pray?
Could we find somewhere to get away?
We searched on the Net
And found nothing to let
At a price we were willing to pay.
Then suddenly over the wire
Came a cottage all ready to hire
Sylvan gardens so green
Were a sight to be seen
Complete with a cosy log fire.
The cottage at Uplay was fine
We've had such a jolly good time
The garden with view
Could seat quite a few
And the barbecue was sublime.
The decor Ikea inspired
Enfolded our friends who've retired
With matching duvets
Our heads we did lay
And awoke in the morning live-wired.
And now we're so full of good cheer
We'd like to return every year
Our only request
To better our rest
Could a range of sunbeds be left here?
So Jacquie, Darren and Nic
Seven teachers all give you a tick
For such short days
These Halcyon days
Have certainly done the trick!
Thank you very much,
