Lyndhurst - Traditional Capital of
the New Forest. The Old Stables holiday cottage is on the
High Street in Lyndhurst village. The drive runs down hill
and away from the road, offering you a little seclusion
in addition to the convenience of pubs, restaurants, tea
rooms and local shops being on your doorstep!
You are in the heart of the New Forest
at the Old Stables. Walk in any direction out of Lyndhurst
and you're sure to come across scenery and landscapes unchanged
for hundreds of years.
This New Forest
holiday cottage has been formed from a newly converted Victorian
Stable
Block and sleeps 12 people. The building is full of
character, having been used previously by the village primary
school, before which it was in use as the name would suggest.
Newly refurbished, this modern conversion is now letting
as a holiday cottage in the New Forest.
Walking down the
gravel driveway from the entrance opposite St
Michaels Church, The Old Stables runs on down the hill,
with about two thirds of the property being used as a holiday
cottage in the new forest. It is built with soft red
brick and the roof has been re-tiled using the original
hand made clay peg tiles. The stable setts which formed
the area of hard-standing outside the original stable block
have been incorporated in the renovation as a pedestrian
pathway
running along the edge of the building, down to the garage
at the end.
The
exterior doors and frames have been given a new lease of life
and provide two entrances
to the ground floor of this new forest holiday cottage. The
interior
doors are all refurbished doors from the local area and
each has a story to tell. Opening the front
door, we step into a very spacious living area, with two
staircases at the rear of the room. To our left is the kitchen
area (chef not included!), with all modern appliances
including dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster etc, and
new stainless steel free-standing kitchen
units. Plenty of room if you want to prepare culinary
masterpieces while on holiday.
Straight ahead from the entrance
is the dining area of this holiday cottage in the new forest,
with seating for 10 guests, and to the right, the lounge
area, again with comfortable seating for up to ten people.
This open plan living, dining and kitchen area is approximately
nine and a half metres by over 5 metres - a pretty big communal
area which is ideal for one or two families or large groups.
Walking through the kitchen area
on the left, we have the Utilitly
room, which contains another sink and the washing machine.
Through the Utility is the downstairs Shower Room, with
w.c., hand basin and shower. The downstairs bedroom (bedroom
5) was a separate stable and now has an interesting
"split level" ceiling. It can be accessed through
the Utility or using it's own stable door which leads directly
out to the front. This is a double room with a 4'6"
bed.
Access to the first floor of our
holiday cottage in the new forest is via the staircase on
the left of the living area, which leads up to the landing
for bedrooms three and four. The staircases feature cast
iron railings which have been salvaged from the original
stable block. The first floor has high, vaulted
ceilings throughout, featuring original
round windows and conservation velux skylights
giving an airy feel to the bedrooms and landings.
Bedroom
4 is a comfortable triple room, with windows front and
rear. All three beds are 3'. Bedroom
3 has a 4'6" bed and 3' single. Also leading off
the landing is the bathroom
for these two bedrooms, featuring bath
with shower over, hand basin and w.c.
The staircase
on the right of the living area leads up to the landing
for bedrooms one and two. Bedroom
2 is a large double room with an interesting twist -
the hayloft
entrance is part of this room, giving you an insight into
the working history of this building. This is where feed
would have been winched up by the stable lad in years gone
by. You also have a superb view of the church
tower from here.
Bedroom
1 is a comfortable twin with two 3' beds. Also leading
off the landing is the bathroom for these two bedrooms,
again featuring bath with shower over, hand basin and w.c.
Parking is at the bottom
and top ends of this new forest holiday cottage, please
note, parking is strictly prohibited along the front of
the property - the school opposite has right of access over
this land. Please park vehicles in line with the garage
doors in the picture, allowing access to the large gate
(out of picture).
Emergency vehicles may need to use
this as access to the rear of the school building at any
time, so please be considerate when parking. Thank you in
advance and we hope you have a pleasant stay at our new
forest holiday cottage in lyndhurst!
The separate lower part of the property
is not available for letting as yet and is in use as owner storage.
